Hello all,

One of my "less common" lines is Raven, meaning few in Cumberland are
researching them.

I've been testing ideas and think I can see why. Also I have some data to
post from both the PR and BT (PR has 4 the BT missed).

I went to the 1881 census index at FamilySearch and used only the last name
"Raven" with soundex on. There were 2,644 total in England but only 73 in
Cumberland. Perfect time for a surname board post.

The following is my Ravens in Ireby and below that is unidentified Ravens.

John Raven married Ann Grayson in Ireby on 17 June 1734. He was a joiner and
could write. But that is the first I've found of them, although the PRs start
in 1666 and the BTs in 1705.

They had the following children, all baptized at Ireby :
Sarah baptized 13 Dec 1738
John " 6 Jan 1742
Anne " 3 Feb 1750
William " 9 Dec 1752

Sarah married John Carleton in Ireby on 27 May 1760. They were married after
banns had been posted 3 Sundays that May ; witnesses were Thomas Wilson and
John Raven. They had 6 children, all in Ireby, between 1761 and 1780. Their
daughter Sarah is my ancestor and she first appears in Ireby. But around 1795 she
starts to show up in Flimby and her father John Carleton is buried in Flimby
on 27 July 1805.

And the burial registry entry for the elder John Raven - buried 16 April
1797, died "aged 86 years" in Ireby.
