Hi Folks, You may not have heard of the website spatial-literacy.org, where some academics have mapped the location of the British population by surname for 1881 and 1998, and can therefore also provide a description of the socio-economic status, etc, of each surname. There are no big surprises for Pulham. In both years, the highest concentration is Suffolk, with Gloustershire having a good number as well. Here are some other results: Great Britain top area (1881) Ipswich Great Britain top area (1998) Ipswich Great Britain top area index * 1542 Great Britain top postal town Ipswich Number of UK gazetteer entries 1 County of gazetteer entry Dorset Republic of Ireland top county Republic of Ireland top county index * Australia top state Victoria Australia top state index * 198 Australia top standard statistical division Hopkins, Victoria New Zealand top province Northland New Zealand top province index * 1284 United States top state Utah United States top state index * 4484 Number of gazetteer entries in Africa or Asian none African or Asian country with most gazetteer entries Number of gazetteer entries in African or Asian country named above So, there are 15 times more Pulhams in the Suffok area even today than the average for Britain. Pulhams are fairly evenly spread around Australia, and in NZ are especially numerous north of Auckland, which is where my GGgrandfather settled and raised a very large family. Hadn't heard of the Mormon branch, though. Cheers Peter Notify Administrator about this message?
