As with many eastern European names, 'Porgesova' is the female version of 'Porges.' As such, my aunts, Klara, Lona and Erica were all surnamed 'Porgesova' whereas my dad's last name was 'Porges.'
His family lived outside Bratislava when he was young, in a town called Tucensky Svaty Matin. According to the US Holocaust Museum, this town was wiped out during the war. Fortunately for my father, he escaped in '39 when the Germans marched in. His mother and sisters were sent to work camps which they all survived, miraculously, though they contracted tuberculosis.
