Taylor Polk, John Polk, Charles Polk

Re Previous posts on this forum on my DNA tests and ramifications of those tests -- It has become very clear from my repeated review of the evidence I have for Taylor Polk of Arkansas (m. Jency Walker), John Polk who m. Elizabeth Alderson, and Charles Polk who m. Margaret Baxter, that these men MAY be brothers, but if so, then the Taylor Polk of Arkansas who is my ancestor, is not the Taylor Polk who is shown per Polk genealogies and other writings to be a brother of the two Polk men mentioned. Paper evidence is in conflict. The only way I can see to reconcile the matter of who the father of Taylor Polk of Arkansas was vs. who the father of the aforementioned John and Charles Polk was, is to have male descendants of all these men step forward and have their DNA tested. Those of you who think you are solid in your genealogy stemming from this John Polk and Charles Polk, supposed sons of John Polk/Eleanor Shelby, may want to rethink that, because it could be that John Polk and Eleanor Shelby may not be the parents of these two men, but there are plenty of ifs, ands or buts about that. I am comfortable with my connection to Taylor Polk of Arkansas, but there is no clear cut path back to his supposed parents John and Eleanor Shelby of York Co., SC. Since I am the only descendant of John Polk/Eleanor Shelby (now supposed descendant)who has had a DNA test, and the paper trail can point in two different directions, I am butting my head against the wall of paper evidence without any other DNA to compare with (DNA of descendants of any of the three Polk males listed above - we do have some DNA evidence of other descendants of the other Mecklenburg Polks). If you want to be sure about your connection to the Mecklenburg Polks, DNA testing needs to be done. Contact me at billpolk@publicnetworking.org if you want to discuss these issues or have questions. Thanks, Bill Polk, Kansas City, MO.
