Vivian,

I sure hope you can find the graves. The records ought to show where the graves are located within the cemetery. There is nothing which irritates me more in this hobby of ours than finding old cemeteries and/or tombstones destroyed. Over 20+ years, I have dealt with that in Texas, Arkansas, and South and North Carolina. Vandals destroying headstones (or just knocking them over), farmers plowing under headstones, local or state governments paving over cemeteries, the problems run the gamut. I am with you and the granddaughter of Willis - I would be raisin' Cain with that funeral home and/or the cemetery association. There can be absolutely no tolerance for this sort of thing!

If you can find any info at all on York deeds, that would be helpful. I appreciate your offer, anything I request would be in general terms (like looking for the Polk surnames in the grantee and grantor indices, to see if I have missed some deeds - I have some deed and info from York, but my recent DNA test results necessitates a review of what I thought was already taken care of!).

If you find you need any info on the family line of Andrew Polk and Louisa Helms, just ask. After looking through my warehouse of paper here and my notes, I came upon the will of Andrew Polk and sure enough he had a daughter who married Thompson, viz "Aley M. Thompson my daughter and wife of E. E. Thompson" (text in his will). I am sure that "Aley M. Thompson" is Elsie Margaret or Margaret Elsie, though I sure cannot figure out why she is called "Aley" vs. Elsie. There is only one E. E. Thompson associated with this family and he must be Ebenezer. I can and will scan this will for you if you like, and send it as a picture file attached to an email. Just tell me the email you want me to use and I will get it right out to you. The source for this will is NC Archives, Box #097.801.41, Will of Andrew Polk, Union Co., NC., 1892.

If you know anything about John H. Thompson and his youngest sister
