In the 5/28 posting by S. C. Connor he states William Polk and Margaret bought land in New Munster from a David Alexander in 1727. He later states a John Alexander emigrated from Armagh County Ireland to the Octoraro Creek area in W. Nottingham Pa. in 1736, along with his wife, a couple of sons, nephews and a niece who married a Mr. Polk. It occurred to me this John Alexander could be related to the David Alexander who sold the land to William Polk, increasing the possibility that the Ewing letter was correct and William Polk had emigrated to the Octoraro Creek area as well from Ireland. According to ancestry.com John had a brother Samuel Alexander b. 1657. This is questionable as John was born in 1693. Samuel had a grandson David born in 1691 in New Munster, a good candidate to be the one who sold the land to William Polk. I haven't taken the time as yet to see if there were any other David Alexanders in the area. What's interesting here is that Samuel Alexander was born in Raphoe, Ireland, probably about 5 miles from Moneen, the family estate of Magdalen Tasker Polk. It appears his family migrated to New Munster (near Elkton MD) by way of Pocomoke, MD which is about 20 miles from Dames Quarter, the original home base of the Somerset County Polks. William Polk's daughter Susan b. 1734 married Samuel's grandson Benjamin Alexander, probably a 1st cousin of the David he purchased the land from. While it is still possible William Polk was part of a later migration of Polks, I think the ties to the Alexanders make it highly probable that he was related to the Somerset County Polks.
