Bill, I have worked painstakingly to recrecate the landscape of the area around Rocky River carrying grants and deeds back as far as I am able. This find is very interesting and it makes me wonder about a suspicion that I hold. Of the folks who settled in and around present day Midland and around the bend of Rocky River over to say Richardson's Creek, many came from Wake, Chatham, Edgecombe Counties. As you probably know, there were Polk or Pollock in these areas of NC that were living in the same communities as others who migrated to Mecklenburg. Not saying that your gang is from Chatham etc, but to make sure, has the DNA of that lineage been tested for comparison? Ca. 1756-1786, there was a major rift between the Regular and Particular Baptists in the area of now Wake/Chatham NC. The two sects of the Baptist church likely migrated to Mecklenburg/Anson. The groups merged in the 1780's and I believe the history was written to reflect the dominant group. The church hitory out of Sandy Creek seems to have survived and the history out of three Creeks in Wake may not have. Anyhow, is it possible that your Polk were tied to this migration and not that of MD? I love to see history questioned! Notify Administrator about this message?
