Thanks David.. "Bob, From research I have that was done by Emory Murphy and others in 1979, your Thomas Polk, Sr., 1757-1842, was married to Mary Shelby, 1765-1841, and second to Keziah Tarleton in 1841. Thomas was reported to be the son of William Polk, 1725-1806. You must have seen this. Is this one of those theories that is not correct or not proven?" That is one of the proven lines.. and I can document his line to the mid 1950s... to Andrew Polk who was the high sheriff of Anson County and owned a couple thousand acres of land here, and his son Leonidas L Polk that founded the town of Polkton, Anson County, and helped found NC State College/Univ. and was founder of the Progressive Farmer organization that was an 'organ' of his third political party for the office of US President... The problem is determining who is the father/mother of this Thomas Polk Sr? ... also, this Thomas Polk has the DAR marker that is incorrect... There is nothing in the state or county archives that I can find that gives a hint of his parentage.... but I found a leter from him to the Governor requesting retirement from political office, ie; Commander of the Anson Co. militia and Justice of the Peace of Anson County... Also a document that seems to relate that he was an Ensign in the Rev War, but there is some doubt as which Thomas Polk it refers... but he is the only one that we can find that fits the age bracket.. It would be wonderful if someone would share some documentation that would prove his line... bob Notify Administrator about this message?
