Gentleman, I want to personaaly thank you both for all you have presented in this forum it will be insrumental in
all of us "Polk" Descendants to discover the truth.

As you stated before, Bill Polk of Missouri has been an incredible data base of information and his insight has been very helpful in my own understanding of my Polk Lineage. Thank You Bill for everything.

S.C Connor, I must say your research is incredibly detailed and gives a wonderful counter to the facts as I thought I knew them. Thank you S.C "Incredible"

Although my addition to both of your postings is basic I thought my own lineage would help clarify and support your fingdings. Bill and I worked my Polk family history as follows.

Luannah C.Polk 5, Robert A. Polk 4, John Polk 3, John Polk 2 and William Polk/MT 1.

John 3's is buried in St. Johns Cemetery Maury, Tennessee, he died 24 May 1845 Tombstone states "Revolutionary Soldier" died 78 years old. He was married to Elizabeth Nancy Alderson b: 1766 Lunenberg Va. This John had a daughter named Nancy Ann Polk b:7 Jul 1794 Nancy Anne recieved a Captains Pin for Revolutionary service which is still in the possesion of the family. His grave states he was a revolutionary soldier but his service record is unknown to me. Bill has stated he believed it belonged to her grandfather rather then her father, but that is questionable to me.

John3 and Nancy's children:

Benjamin DA Polk b: 1 Jan 1790 Greenbrier W.V ?
Evan Shelby Polk b:16 Dec 1791 " "
Nancy A Polk b: 7 Jul 1788-94 " "
Elizabeth Sophia Polk b: 9 Oct 1796 " "
John Polk b:25 Oct 1798 " "
Robert A Polk b: 1801/1802 " "
Franklin Armstead Polk b:10 Apr 1804 " "

I would like to state some facts about why I feel my John Polk3 is likely the son of John2 and Eleanor Shelby who died in York, South Carolina. One of John3's son was named "Evan Shelby" Polk which is probably the name of her brother and Father.

My ancestor Robert A. Polk4 is said to have been at the battle of New Orleans as a very young Ensign where he is portrayed alongside General Jackson and a Captain Charles Polk. After the war he was given a commission as an "Indian Agent" (Buells History of President Jackson)He was said to have been part of a cavalry Spy Unit. I can not find any hard evidence of this service. Robert A's older brothers are documented with Captain Charles Polk for their service in the 1812 War the unit is said to be mustered from Stuart Co., Tennessee.

John Polk3 is taxed in Maury Co., Tennessee in 1807 and his "Uncle" Ezekiel Polk (Grandfather of James K Polk) conveyed to his "Nephew" John Polk3 172 acres of land in Williamson Co., Tennessee 1811.

John Polk3 inlaws were Benedict Alderson and Ann Cole who were well documented in York, South Carolina neighbors of
John2 and Eleanor Shelby.

As both of you are aware there was a Polk family in Nashville, Tennessee who exhibits the Lineage of John Polk of Burke "Peter Polk" heir of John Polk. Bill you and I have talked about these Polks on numerous occasions as it pertains to my Leek and Baldrige ancestors but as you stated earlier, these are the people you have not placed, (Richard, John, Peter etc..) All though I do not know how someone documented it Taylor Polk and Jency Walker were married in Nashville: Marriage 1 Jency WALKER Married: 1 Nov 1798 in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tn. Children Taylor, Sr. POLK b: 1800 in Nashville, Davidson County.

On my visit to Nashville last year I spent some time in the City archives building and recognised that if I had not gone directly to their records library I could not have discovered many of the births, marriages, deeds, wills etc.. I need to go back !

Anyway thank you both for your determination it is awesome.
