Hi, Betty

Thanks for your reply. I have abundant information on Charles Polk and his descendants, but I still do not trace your connection to Capt. Charles Polk. Here is your ancestry as I understand it to be:

Your mother, Lula Ellen Wilson, m. Riley William Kuykendall

Lula Ellen Wilson, daughter of John Samuel Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Rushing

Mary Elizabeth Rushing, daughter of John Wilson Rushing and Serena Catherine Clontz

Serena Catherine Clontz, daughter of Jeremiah A. Clontz and Elizabeth Kiker.

This is where I get lost. I cannot figure out the next connection that leads to Capt. Charles Polk. The only connection I see involving these people is not a blood connection. The non-blood connection I see is via Elizabeth Kiker's first husband, who was Charles Cannon Love. Charles Cannon Love is a son of Thomas Love and Susannah Polk, Susannah being the daughter of Capt. Charles Polk, but this would not be your ancestry, since your ancestress is Elizabeth Kiker (as I understand your ancestry to be). So, unless Elizabeth Kiker goes back, somehow, to Charles Polk or, the Clontz line does (and I don't know it to connect to Capt. Charles Polk), I cannot see the blood connection. As I said previously, I seem to be missing a connection somewhere along the line. Please verify your ancestry as I have it and please explain how you get from Serena Catherine Clontz to Capt. Charles Polk and via his daughter Susannah (Polk) Love in a blood connection. Thanks.

By the way, I have never been able to prove that Ezekiel Washington Polk, son of Capt. Charles Polk, moved to Tennessee. Ezekiel Washington Polk was not mentioned in Charles Polk's will of 1 Nov 1820 - Was he dead?. Ezekiel W. is also not mentioned as an heir of Capt. Charles Polk in a deed of 27 April 1825, where other heirs of Capt. Charles Polk got shares of land - Where was he, why no share? Was he dead? Yet, Ezekiel Washington Polk MAY be in the 1830 census, Cabarrus Co., NC., although the age of the Ezekiel Polk in Cabarrus County, 1830, does not fit the 1791 birth year for Ezekiel Washington Polk. But I don't know that this 1791 birth year is correct, have nothing to verify it. I cannot determine who this 1830 Ezekiel Polk is, cannot connect him to other Polks. Charles Simpson, in a genealogy column of a NC 1915 newspaper, states that Ezekiel Washington Polk and some of his sibs moved to Tennessee early in the 19th century. I know this move to be fact for some of the children of Capt. Charles Polk, but I have found nada on Ezekiel Washington Polk (that I recognize to be him) in TN. Some researchers have glommed onto Ezekiel Washington Polk as a man in Illinois. An Ezekiel W. Polk m. Martha Jane Clay in Madison Co., TN., 23 June 1840, but I don't know that this is Ezekiel Washington Polk, son of Capt. Charles Polk, have not been able to trace this Ezekiel Polk. So, Ezekiel Washington Polk is one of many lost Polks.

Later, Bill
