I am sure that I can not irritate more than I already have.I am going to give it a try.I note that many have listed their Poe ancestors as descendants of Samuel and a Mary? Some take it a bit further and claim descendancy from an Edward to Samuel who was baptized in 1659.It has been theorized that Samuel was the father of Simon,William ,Benjamin,Marsom etc.It has been suggested that these men were not old enough in 1724 or 1725 to act as executor, and that this is why a Francis Browning acted as such.We also have into this mix a Robert Poe who died in 1722 .My thoughts are that all of this is far reaching and most likely wrong. If our Samuel was the man who was baptized in nottingham in 1659 keeping in mind many were not baptized as infants but as teenagers ,Samuel could have been born in 1650 Lets say though that he was born in 1659.If he marrieds at 28 he would have married he would have started his family by 1780 Those men found in Caroline Co are to young to be his children. The ages don't make sense .Let us say then that the children were born beginning in about 1707 Samuel would have been close to 50 or more when his oldest son was born.I think that if he was the samuel from Mottingham then he must have been the grandfather of these men. It makes sense to me that if Robert was Samuels son and Robert died leaving a wife and children ,when Samuel died a few years later,he would have been survived by perhaps a wife and a wid0wed daughter in law and a bunch of grand kids .Then it would make perfect sense for the court to appoint Frances Browning to oversee the estate. Is it not just as likely that robert was the son of Samuel and that the men discussed were his sons and Samuels grandsons. That would explain why none of them were in a position to be named executor. This would also explain a relationship between Samuel and Robert clearly one existed. They could easily have been Father and son .Regardless, there is not one shred of evidence that Samuel was the father of these men who eventually migrated into NC.There is much in my opinion to suggest that Samuel was nobodys father or if he was perhaps he was Roberts Dad Robert could just as easily been the father of all those men found after Samuels death. There is nothing to suggest either that there is a descendancy from Nottingham England.similar names found in England show only possibilities. There is ,not one named Samuel Poe found on an immigration list can be shown to be associated with our family .Ththere are those Poes who did arrive early on are to me a better candidate to be Samuels father than someone just because they share a similar naming pattern name. There seems to be a samuel Poe still in Nottingham clear up until the late 1690's further making me think that the name Samuel being found there is an indication that perhaps the Samuel Poe who was baptized in 1659 did not migrate at all but continued to live in England.
