Hi, I have dueling sources and hoped someone could help me straighten this out. In "Cousin Monroe's History of the Pickens Family" by Monroe Pickens, revised by Kate Pickens Day, Hannah Pickens, the daughter of Israel Pickens and his wife Martha, married James Montgomery (b. abt 1750), son of John and Martha Montgomery. James Montgomery and Hannah Pickens lived in Mecklenburg County, NC, but Hannah's family came from Ireland down through Pennsylvania, to Augusta County, VA, before ending up in NC. Next we have John Montgomery listed as the son of James Montgomery and Hannah Pickens. John Montgomery m. Mary Clark and had twin daughters in 1796, Hannah Pickens Montgomery and Anne Woods Montgomery, among other children. In E. M. Sharp's "Pickens Families of the South", we have Hannah Pickens, daughter of Israel and Martha Pickens, b. 1749 in Charlotte County, VA, m. (1) James Clark and (2) George Davis. In this version, Hannah Pickens and James Clark have a daughter, Mary Clark, who proceeds to marry John Montgomery, and have the above twin daughters. E.M. Sharp does not address the parentage of John Montgomery, but I have seen elsewhere that he is supposed to be the son of James Montgomery and Anne Woods. So, my question is: did Hannah Pickens, the daughter of Israel and Martha Pickens, marry James Montgomery or James Clark and what is the source for that information? I can't find a source citation in either of the above books to tell me where they found their information, though the Sharp book seems to have more supporting data included overall. Any input would be welcome. Thanks, Karen Dutton kdutton@carolina.rr.com Notify Administrator about this message?
