Parkes - Toronto & Yorkshire connections
Posted by: Elizabeth Parkes (ID *****4298) Date: June 03, 2004 at 18:15:57

Hi there,

My great-great grandfather was Thomas Parkes (b.?), Yorkshire, England. He apparently had (or worked at?) a steel factory/company that made swords or cutlery. There was a family disagreement and he moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1883. In Toronto, he met Selina McKinley from Scotland and they married and had a child, Earnest Isaac Parkes (b. 1885), who later met and married Florence Ablitt. They were married October 1st, 1913 in Toronto. they had Arhtur Parkes, my grandfather, and Naomi Parkes.

Apparently there is also some connection with Sir Henry Parkes, the Prime Minister of NSW in Australia in the 19th century.

If anyone has any connections, please let me know!

Thanks! :)
