Jane Pagan b.1819 Lyne, Peebleshire

Please can anyone help me with this elusive woman!?

Jane Pagan married James Howden, probably late 1840s.
The family appears on the 1861 census living in Haddington, East Lothian. Jane's place of birth is given as Lyne, Peeblesshire. Her age would give a birth date of c.1819.

James died in 1878.

The last trace of Jane is on the 1881 census where she is living in Inveresk Village with her daughter Joan.

I can find no birth record for her in the opr and what's more maddening is that I can't find any death record either.

I'm starting to toy with the idea she could have emigrated with Joan or another of her children. I can't find a death record for Joan either.

Thanks in advance :)
