Hi Patrick, I would have replied to you off of the website, but couldn't quite read your email address. I have a bit more information about the O'Learys - thanks to some kind people who were able to look up the family in Casey's and Griffiths Valuation. My great grandmother (Mary O'Leary) came from Knockdoorah, Co. Kerry - but not far from Cork. Her father was John O'Leary of same. There are Moynihans in Knockdoorah and in Barraduff, where my greatgrandfather (Michael Shea) lived and raised my grandmother. I don't know if the Moynihans were related on the Leary side or the Shea side... Maybe both. Oddly enough, one of my grandmother's brothers (He would have been an O'Shea) moved to Buffalo, New York. It's quite possible that he moved there because there were relatives already there - either O'Learys or Sheas.) He lived there until he died. I remember my grandmother, father, and uncle going to Buffalo to his funeral. His family came to Cambridge MA when my father died - but I was such a mess, that I don't remember them. I plan to visit both Barraduff and Knockdoorah while I am in Ireland. I'll spend most of my time in County Kerry - with a trip to the Cliffs of Moher in Clare. My grandfather Quinn was supposed to be from County Clare, but I have no information about him at all. He died before I was born. If the townland of Knockdoorah sounds familiar to you, please let me know. I too have heard about the annual O'Leary gathering. If I learn anything that might be of interest to you, I'll post it. Thanks & be well. Mary Quinn Notify Administrator about this message?
