Hello I am trying to find the ancestors of Mary McMaster(s), born around 1802 in Scotland and moved to Marylebone, London. I have very little info about her. My trail backwards started with Henry Stapleton, a fishmonger, b 15/6/1845 in All Souls, Marylebone, parents William Stapleton & Mary (formerly McMasters). His siblings appear to be William b ca 1827, also a shoemaker; Mary Ann b 1/11/1830; Ellen b 9/4/1841; & Betsy b 29/6/1849 (chr in the Workhouse chapel) - all Marylebone. Despite the 1841 birth certificate of Ellen (parents William & Mary Stapleton formerly MacMaster), William Stapleton(senior), described as a bachelor, married Mary McMaster, a spinster, on 4/5/1845 at All Souls Church, St Marylebone. Their fathers are stated as Jeremiah Stapleton & Peter McMaster, both deceased and both shoemakers. They lived in the All Souls area of Marylebone/Pancras. In 1851 Mary was described as a charwoman. I believe she died in the early part of 1857 in Marylebone. I could not find a Mary on the IGI site with a father Peter. I could only see one Peter McMaster marriage for the period 1765 - 1805, to Jean Murchie 24/12/1804 Old Luce Wigtown, and only two births for the period 1750-90, chr 17/1/1775 Inch father James and chr 18/1/1786 Stranraer parents John & Mary Linn - both Wigtown. None of this offered me any obvious grounds for optimism. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks Mick Notify Administrator about this message?
