We have McMasters in our family tree that were born in Ireland but returned to Scotland and died there .

William McMaster was born in Ireland between 1785-1801
"The 1841 Scotland Census for Maybole was the first one in which I located William and his wife Rachel McComb Paterson. They were living at Wlltrees Square with four children. Their birthplaces were both listed as Ireland and several other people from Ireland were enumerated at the same residence including Hugh Rennis, age 45, James Downs, age 25, and Joseph Down, age 23. Also listed was a five year old girl named Jame Downs, born in Ayrshire. All members of this household, excepts the mother Rachel and the child Jane, were employed as cotton hand loom weavers including 15 year old Rachel and 10 year old John, who were listed as apprentices." (Research by Shelia Peckham in 2003)

This William had a father named William McMaster and a mother by the name of Elizabeth Brown
