Have found that my gt gt gt uncle Charles MACFIE or MCFIE left Rothesay, Bute, SCT and emigrated to Canada. In his brother James's will, proved 1881,he is given a bequest and his address is given as "Ekfrid Post Office, Appin, Ontario, Canada. His son, James Walker MACFIE "of America" is also given a bequest.
I suspect this is the same Charles MACFIE who married Ann WALKER in Port Glasgow, Renfrew, SCT 4 Jan 1836. I also suspect James Walker MACFIE is the James W MACFIE in the 1881 Canadian Census, b Ontario 1845, living at Ekfrid, Middlesex East, Ontario, married to Jane Ann (of Irish ethnic origin, and father of Elisabeth, Mary Ann, Charles M and John M MACFIE. Elisabeth Jane MACFIE, b 2 Sept 1868 in Appin, Middlesex, Ontario, died 15 Oct 1938, is listed in the IGI as the daughter of James W MACFIE and Mary Ann MAITLAND.
Have not yet traced Charles MACFIE's birth, even at the new, improved scotlandspeople website. Any descendants out there?
