I descend from Margaret Sarah Forrest (Foryst) Prentice Gilfillan MacPhee, born probably in 1852 in Rutherglen, Lanark, and died in Iowa in 1951. She married Alexander Mitchell on January 1, 1872, in Rutherglen. I think that her long list of names is a collection of ancestral family names for about a century, all probably centered in Lamark. Mitchell family tradition gives her father's name as Alexander MacPhee, but Scots records report her parents' names as James MacPhee and Christina Robertson. She was apparently raised in the MacPhee family with these children: Charlie, Sarah G. (b. 1856), and Sandy (Alexander?), none of whom seem to have had long sets of names. In family records, I find MacPhee also spelled as MacFee. Margaret named her first daughter Christina. The Mitchells left Scotland in 1881. Is there a Scots MacPhee, MacFie or MacFee with a family tree that connects to my people in Lanark? Sincerely, J. Mitchell 11mitchell@mchsi.com Notify Administrator about this message?
