My GGGGGGrandmother was Jennet Guffin. She was born on March 3, 1764 in Newry County Down Ireland. She immigrated to the colonies with her three brothers Thomas, George, and Andrew in 1773 arriving at Baltimore Md. Thomas settled in Virgina and south carolina, George went to Penn. Kentucky and Ohio, and Andrew and Jennet went to Conn. and New York. They were devout Scotch-Irish Presbyterians. Jennet's Husband Joseph Boughton and her brother Andrew founded the First Presbyterian Church in Nassau , New York and were installed ruling elders ; positions that they held till they died. The Guffin name was changed from McGuffin after the family left Ireland. It is said that the McGuffin family originally came to Ireland from Scotland in 1680, but it does not say from where in Scotland. Nor is there any mention of their parents names. I want to know more about this family and Jennet who at age of 9 years sailed accross the Atlantic to the new world in search of a better life than what she had in Ireland. On Dec. 25, 1786 Jennet married Joseph Boughton They had four boys and four girls she lived til she was 65 years of age. I would like to find out where in Scotland the McGuffins came from? Could it be Galloway region? Thanks, Marshall
