James Macfie, Rothesay, Bute, late 1700s

JAMES Macfie, weaver,(born abt 1780) son of JAMES Macfie, seaman, married Mary Sharp, daughter of Donald Sharp, seaman, in Rothesay on 14 Feb 1804.All are "of Rothesay" in OPRs. Their children were JAMES(b Dec 1804) DONALD (b 1806), ARCHIBALD (my gt gt grandfather, b 1808) and JOHN(b 1817). Archibald worked at the cotton mill on Rothesay, married Helen Kerr in June 1836 and moved to Hamilton, Lanark, around 1847/1848.
Their children were JAMES (b 1837)(dsp); ARCHIBALD (Headmaster at the elementary school in Govan in the 1881 Census, b 1839) m Christina Adam, Edinburgh 1866; JEAN (b1843); CHARLES (b 1846) and DANIEL (b 1849)
my gt grandfather, commercial traveller, engineer, eventually a businessman in Edinburgh.
