Would like ANY information or tips on how to research a Norman MacLeod born abt 1796-1804 on Harris. He shows up with his wife Catharine Morrison (Born abt 1802) in the 1841 Scottish census, but I can't find out who his parents were, or who her parents were. I see that they had 8 children and I have followed them to the U.S. but going backwards in time is the problem. Any suggestions? Anybody heard of the family?
I believe their sons to be: Norman Jr.(born 1829), Findlay (born 1831), Neil (born 1835), Murdoch (born 1842)and Donald/Daniel (born 1846) and daughters: Anne (born 1847) and Margaret (born 1844). They were on the "Sea Nymph" out of Glasgow, arrived in NY in 1852 and settled Leicester NY in 1860 but then in the small town of York in the 1870 census. Anyone with knowledge of the family or tips on how to go backwards, please help!
