Barbara, now that I know Mr. MABEE's first name was George, here is some additional information which I recently came across that may interest you. I was doing some searching in the Tompkins County, GenWeb site a couple of weeks ago. I put in the name MABEE, and came up with several hits. One was the gravesite of a woman who is buried in the Danby Presbyterian Cemetery, in Danby, NY. The tombstone transcription reads as such: Margaret. Wife of George MABEE & daughter of I & M SMITH died Dec.30, 1857 aged 35 years & 3 days. (Plus, there is an epitaph) Now, I don't know at this point if she was married to THE George MABEE we've been speaking of, but if so, it's possible that SHE may have been the mother of one or even both of the boys mentioned in Sarah (Briggs) MABEE's obit. It seems to me that one time when I was looking at the 1860 census for Van Etten, NY, I found Sarah BRIGGS still in the home of her parents. So, if she was 2nd wife of George and they married at some point AFTER the 1860 census, it is possible that she (Sarah) was not the mother of both of the sons mentioned if George died at Gettysburg in July of 1863. It's all conjecture on my part right now, but something to think about. I will have to double check that 1860 census at the library when I get a chance.
