Even though Polly Mabe's War of 1812 pension application lists Germantown as the place of Reuben's enlistment, I suspect that she meant Germanton which was the county seat of Stokes County, North Carolina at that time. I strongly suspect that Reuben's father was Reuben Mabe of Stokes County, North Carolina. There are two pieces of evidence I use to come to this conclusion 1) the will of Reuben Mabe which was probated in 1856 in Stokes County which lists his sons' names (Reuben was the name of one of his sons. There is no David listed), and 2) Abner Mabe, who is a proven son of Reuben Mabe, filed a War of 1812 pension application in which he recounts that he served in the same unit as Reuben. I use these facts along with other circumstantial evidence that I list in the on-line book to draw my conclusion. If this analysis is correct then David could not be Reuben's brother but he could possibly be a cousin. I attempt to place David in his proper place but there is not enough information about him to do so.
It is possible that during Reuben's War of 1812 enlistment (who knows where his unit went) he met his future wife, Sarah Cherry which would explain how he could marry a Cherry even though no families by that surname were living in Stokes County.
