Jim,

Thanks, I don't remember whether I sent you all of what I found in Hawkins County. I will recap just in case that I didn't.

There is an April 9, 1838 bastardy claim by Elizabeth Goodman against Reuben. He was found not guilty.

There is a October 19, 1837 lien against Reuben's household goods in favor of Clement Lawson for debts of Mary Mabe. Reuben acknowledged that he was responsible for the debts of Mary. Clement later shows up in Pike County, OH married to a Mary around 1837. So, this could be the same Mary, and Clement simply covered the debt for her in exchange for the household good.

There is an March 26, 1837 debt case againt Alexander Mabe in which Reuben acknowledged that he was the father of Alexander.

There is a June 6, 1871 Widow's pension application by widow Mary for Reuben's service in the War of 1812. Reuben died on April 8, 1871 at Cool Spring, Tennessee (Hawkins County?). It states that he enlisted at Germantown, NC. Mary states that her name before her marriage was Mrs. Johnson. This doesn't match up with census data which shows she was living with Hennis Lawson in 1850, and a girl of the same age in 1840. Mary Lawson (Johnson) married Reuben in Oct 1855 and in 1860 was found with children born before 1850 and after 1850 before she married Reuben.

One mystery is that David Mabe is usually listed as his son, but according to the census records, David was about as old as Reuben in 1850, so it seems more likely he was a brother or cousin than a son unless the census is wrong--and we have other cases of that. There isn't much on David Mabe.

There a deed for property bought by David Mabe on Richardson's Creek in Hawkins County, TN dated April 6, 1855.

There is a garnishment case against David Mabe by James Willis dated February 7, 1857. Robert Rogers paid his bond.

David Mabe and his wife were missing in the 1860 census, but his children were living with other families. As far as I can tell, there are no records to indicate how the likely children of David Mabe were related to the children of Reuben Mabe other than continued proximity.

David
