Dear Patricia,
One of my ancestors - Michael Kirwin, went to the US also around 1850. He would have been from region around Rosecrea. His parents were James Kirwin and Catherine Mary Mortimer. Two siblings of Michael came to Australia. Catherine Mary Kirwan and Edward Kirwin. Catherine was a great pioneering lady in the gold rush days of the 1850's in Victoria. She lived till 1920. Edward went on to New Zealand. Fought in the Maori Wars. Got killed in 1868 - body never found.

Descendants of Michael Kirwin in the US include Mary Balle. She knows the family history better than I. She can be reached at
mballe@berkshire.net

I would like to hear from anyone with connections to Kirwins from around Rosecrea, eg Cos Tipperary, Kings or Queens.
