We have been researching our Kirwan line for years with no success. I'm hoping someone can shed some light for us. My husband's great-grandfather - Augustine Kirwan came from Ireland probably between 1830-1845. Supposedly he was a swordsman running away after a duel in which he killed a man. He could have come over even under an assumed name. He married Mary Spratt in Iowa. No one in the family knows where he died or where he is buried. We have clues but just cannot tie it together. My grandfather would not even talk about his father. If anyone has any information that might help us, we would love to hear from you.
