I am looking for information about Peter Jackson, who was born 1827 or 1828 in Norway, according to the 1880 U.S. census. He married Mary R. Daly (b. 1836/1837, NF, CAN), and the couple had five children in New York: David (b. 1863/1864), Mary (b. 1867/1868), Peter (b. 1869/1870), James (b. 1872/1873), and John Michael (b. 1877-01-07).
Jackson is not a common name in Norway, so Peter probably changed his last name after arriving in the U.S. It has been suggested that his original last name may have been Jacobson, but I have no proof of that.
Can anybody help?
