I've only recently began looking into geneology, and I keep running into a wall. I see lots of Irby's listed, but can't seem to find a common name in my tree with the names discussed here.
Here is a quick line back starting with my great grandfather. Please let me know if any of these names look familiar or if you have a hint for another place to begin looking. So far my resources for Irby's are here, web searches and ancestery.com (Census, military, marriage records, etc.)
William Sylvester Irby was born 27 Oct 1877 somewhere in Tennessee. His younger brother, Bert, was born in Feb 1886 in McKinzie, Carroll Co. TN.
His parents are William W Irby and Millie R. William W was born Mar 1847. He is not listed in 1850, but between a brother and sister in 1860 (Alfred born 1844 and Martha born 1848). The family was migrating westward across TN: 1840 in Dickson Co. TN, 1850 Humphreys Co, 1860 Weakley Co.
George Washington Irby and Margaret are his parents. George Washington is listed as Washington Irby, Washington Urby, GW Irby and George W Irby. He is also listed several ages, but I'm guessing he was born before 1820. i'm not sure whether he was born in VA or NC since both are listed. VA is only once though.
I'm unsure how to go about finding the parents of George Washington. There were 3 other Irby's listed in Dickson County in 1840. James, John, and William. John is much older, so i'd guess that he was the father of the other three or some of them.
Thank you for any help finding more resources or names.
