My ancestor - William Inglis (1804- ) lived and worked on his father’s farm in Lanarkshire most of his life. He inherited Keppelhill sometime in the late 1850’s. In 1860, at age 56 he married Marion Telfer a mere lass of only 22 years. They had nine children; Ebenezer (1860- ), Marion (1861- ), William (1862- ), John (1863- ), Robert (1867- ), James (1870- ), Thomas (1872- ), Katie (1876- ) and Jessie (1877- ). By 1871 William was farming a much larger, 330 acre farm in Lanarkshire called Fullwood. Upon researching Keppelhill I find only one reference to a mining accident that occurred at the Keppelhill Pit in 1901. I can only speculate that William sold Keppel hill for coal mining and used the proceeds to purchases Fullwood. In 1877 William died, the same year that his youngest child was born. His wife Marion farmed Fullwood for a few years then retired to 31 Hope Street in Lanark to raise her children. She died in 1911.
