I am looking to connect the dots concerning the family of JOSEPH HORSLEY and verify that I'm on the right track with my gggrandmother Sarah E. Horsley(Hosely/Hosley) Burns. The 1870 Federal Census puts the HORSLEY family in Pipers Gap, Carroll County VA. IT IS LISTED IN THE CENSUS THAT JOSEPH WAS DENIED THE RIGHT TO VOTE (on grounds other than rebellion or other crime) - can anyone provide me any reasons for that? Joseph age 53 - farmer Mary age 54 Sarah age 18 George age 14 Ellen age 12 Other family members in the 1870 Census may be: James age 22, Amanda age 25, Henrietta age 2, Reuben age 24, Matilda age 21, Washington age 2. The 1875 Jefferson Co. KS Census lists the family as HOSLEY: Joseph Hosley age 57 farmer b. VA to KS from VA, living in Kaw Township Mary Hosley age 58 b. VA Sally Hosley (dates match with Sarah) age 22 b. VA George Hosley age 19 b. VA Ellen Hosley age 16 b. VA James Hosley age 2 b. KS (grandson - don't know who parents are) The 1880 Federal Census lists the HORSLEYs (George, wife Matilda, James (nephew) and Mary (mother) living in Platte Co. MO without Joseph (assuming he died sometime between 1875-80), Sarah and Ellen. Sarah would have already married Patrick BURNS and remained in Kansas. Sarah was buried in a Catholic cemetary but I don't know if she converted to marry Patrick Burns or if her parents were..considering her parents are named Joseph and Mary I may have just answered my own question... I would be grateful to learn more about JOSEPH and MARY HORSLEY. Thanks! Notify Administrator about this message?
