Rowland Jr., my ancestor, married Nancy Talbot. Perhaps someone has confused the two Rowlands. And, by the way, Charles GOODMAN, Jr. married Sarah TALBOT, Nancy's younger sister. Just in case you are interested, I have the following abstract of his will. I have not seen the original. The will of Charles Goodman, as recorded in Will Book 9, pp. 3-6, in Albemarle County, Virginia: "..... In the second place I reserve to myself in my Orchard to be buried where my two wives are buried and my black people so much land to be laid off by my executors twenty five yards one way and forty five yards the other way so as to take the graves of the black people with the white people that quantity of land is not to be sold, nor disposed of, but is to be kept for a burying place.... I give to my son Horsley Goodman one negro boy by the name of Bille, a child of negro Millie, or fifty pounds which he should chose the money or the negro which is all that I shall give him out of my Estate by reason that he has received of me before in lands lying in Albemarle County near the old Barracks containing by estimation two hundred and seven acres.... I lend to my daughter Elizabeth Anderson one negro woman by the name of Dolle and her child by the name of John Winston .... My will and desire is that negroes that has a wife or a husband in my estate might not be parted but to remain in one of the leggatees and those that has wifes or husbands abroad, I leave it to my executors to do as they and my children shall think best. My negro Agge has a desire to live with my daughter Susanah Rogers & if she should chuse to take her she may have her at half what she should be praised two and that Susanah is to allow Agge one forth of what she should be worth to hire per year for her part and for Susanah to have the other three parts for vitling and clothing the said Agge and to pay her at every years end punctually and if Susanah should not chuse to take her on them terms any of my children that she should chuse to live with may make her on the same tirms allowing the half what she should be praised two as so much in their leggase the said negro Agge I give to them that should take her to them and to their heirs forever. The balance of my negroes (Excepting Sophia and her children) I leave to my executors and children to lot them or divide them equally amongst my hereafter named children....Wm, Joseph, Nathan, John, Roland and Jeremiah Augustus Goodman, and daughter Susannah Anderson Rogers (John). As for Sophia and her children my will and desire is that Susanah Rogers should have her child by the name of Betsey.... & after the said negro Betsey came to be the age of twenty five years old that my daughter Susannah Rogers or whoever shall have her in posession shall allow to the said Betsey one forth what she should be worth to hire for per year and that to be paid to the said Betsey every year as long as Betsey should live, and the other three forths is to go to the person that should have her in possession to vittle and cloth her sufficiently As for Sophia and her other two Salle and Dick I give to Nance Horsley the sister to my last wife Sally Goodman and that Nance Horsley or whosoever should possess them the said negroes shall allow to Sophia one third of what she should be worth per year, to hire from the time she gets possession of her and as for her children Salle and Dick as soon as they come to the age of twenty five years they are to be allowed the same as their mother and to be strictly paid up at every years end to Sophia Salle & Dick up their part as long as they should live that part of their labours, those negroes I give to Nance Horsley & to her heirs forever, that the said Nance to have strict regard to whomsoever these negroes should go to serve they are to be entitled to the same pay as long as they live. I give unto them Rowland Horsley and Nancy his wife the negro woman Sophia & her present and future increase except the girl above devised in my will to Susannah Rogers which gift it is my particular desire should be carried into execution. The cemetery that was described in Charles' will still exists, but there is no standing marker for him or his wives. Some of his children and grandchildren are buried there, with the oldest stone being for his son Horsley Goodman, who died 14 FEB 1827. This cemetery is on Route 660, northwest of Charlottesville, Virginia.
