This is merely a hunch...but I think that your Gully or Gulley family could have been in Claiborne co TN and also Lee Co VA...

I believe that Gully Wilburn b 1830 was named for kinship with a Gully family...I also have Elliott and McAdams as allied family ancestors...both lines married each other and also m Wilburns...Also there was a Wilburn Brewer..

And this is what makes me think that your Gully ancestors might have roots in eastern TN or Lee Co VA...right on the border.
