No, I'm not of the same Drayton family. I am descended from a Thomas Drayton who arrived in the Carolina colony in 1679. However, I am aware of the Draytons from Lincolnshire from my research which I undertook in the early 1990s into the English side of our family. Place names such as Gainsborough and Coningsby came up. I was curious as to how a man who immigrated with his family into the US should within a few years be enlisted in the Union army. I wonder whether by that time he had assumed American citizenship. Are you aware of the Draytons from South Carolina? I do have relatives who are descended from a William Drayton, who moved from Florida and became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. You can find the family papers online in the Historical Society of Pennsylvania's site. I'm sorry I've forgotten the actual website.
