the origins of family drayton

There is an old story that I have been told since I was a child of where our family came from. I would like to share it, as well as get input from the other parts of the family.

Some of you have heard that our family came from De Vere, the first chamberlain of the king of england who was given home in drayton castle, and made a noble for his service; that after several generations, de vere gave up their name and assumed the name drayton.

But where does drayton come from?

Drayton is an english bastardization of the romanian name "Drehen" which means "from the dragon"

The dragon being Dracul; Vlad Tepes Dracul.
