Catherine was most likely born on Patterson Creek in VA/WV. Not many settlers were in SW PA before 1763 due to indians in the Revolutionary War and a little time afterwards in the Indian Wars.
Catherine's sister in law would have been Sarah Speers who married Nicholas Crist, Sr, John Michael Crist's brother in the Patterson Creek area in the 1760's. Her parents family - 3 sons and 8 or 9 of their daughters and famiies moved to SW PA after 1763. A 4th son Noah was born in 1769 on the Monongahela River in Yohogahenia Co VA / Bedford Co which became Westmoreland Co PA. Her German father Peter Henry Speer/Spears was the first registered landowner in Westmoreland Co in 1769. Her brother Jacob Spears was the first registered landowner at the Youghiogheny River on the National Trail crossing in Somerset Co north of the Mason Dixon line when he was just 15 in 1769. He was in Bourbon County by 1787 and named Bourbon Whiskey in 1810. He sold his Yough Crossing land in 1816. His neighbors to the south at the crossing was Peter Resner (Reasoner) his brother in law and also his uncle Paul Froman south of the Mason Dixon line.
