Looking for an unknown Crist from Bedford County. Although it’s a somewhat rare occurrence, I have discovered the woman’s maiden name [STUFFT] and her parents and siblings, before learning her husband’s name. Hopefully, someone will recognize her family, and know who she was married to! 1860 Census for Union Township, Bedford County shows: Post Office: St. Clairsville Michael Stufft, 37 Margaret, 35 MARY ANN, 14 Valentine, 11 Dorothy, 10 Rachel, 8 William F., 6 Michael, 4 Moses, 2 By 1870 Mary Ann is 24 and is already widowed [last name CRIST], and she has two children: Emma, 3; and William, 9 months old. Also in 1870, her father [Michael Stufft] is now dead, and Margaret’s household is listed as: Stufft, Margaret, 44 Dorothy, 20 Rachel, 18 William, 17 Michael, 13 Curtin, 7 ß [probably should be Curtis]. By 1880, Mary Ann and her son William are living with her grandmother, Dorothy Stufft. Emma does not appear, and is likely deceased already. Does anybody know the name of the MR. CRIST whom Mary Ann was married? She never remarried, and she is buried in Ainsworth, Nebraska, along with her son and his descendants. The online cemetery information incorrectly shows Mary Ann’s year of birth as 1816, when it should be 1846 [I suspect the stone is worn]. Craig Notify Administrator about this message?
