Andrew Crist (1822 - 1907) was my great-great-great-great grandfather. I'm posting this information, hoping it might be of some help to others searching for Crists in Nebraska. The obituary and thank you note below appeared in the Custer County Beacon on January 30, 1907. Also, as long as I'm here - if anyone happens to know the whereabouts of Andrew Crist's wife's place of burial (her name was Catharine "Wagner" or "Wagoner" or "Waggoner,") this information would be much appreciated. I believe she might be buried next to Andrew, but her half of their gravestone is blank, and I've had no luck just yet with obtaining cemetery records. I've made a couple of notes of my own, which appear in brackets. It is also worth noting that Mellissa Reddick's name is spelled Mellissa and Melissa (I believe "Melissa" might be correct, but I'm basing that on a cemetery transcription. Andrew Crist is buried at Kingston Cemetery (or "Liberty" - it is close to an old church of that name). The cemetery is just east of Westerville, Nebraska. DIED Andrew Crist, Ansley, Nebraska. January 24, 1907, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, 27 days. Andrew Crist was born in Carl [sic - means "Carroll"] County, Ohio, Nov. 28, 1822. He was married to Catharine Wagner in the year 1849 [marriage record states Catharine "Wagoner"]. To this union were born seven children; viz: William, David of Henderson, Neb., Mellissa Reddick of Ashland, Mary Duncanson, Seth of Ansley, Ira of Ansley and Emma Hyatt of Ansley. He leaves a wife and five children, William and Mary having preceded him to the better land. He was a kind husband and father and was beloved by all who knew him. While it is our loss, it is his gain. He moved from Ohio to Ill.(?), then to Saunders County, Nebraska, then he moved to Custer county where he remained until death claimed him afer an illness of two days. He first joined the Baptist church then the Christian church where he was a member for over twenty-five years. The funeral services were held at the house, conducted by Brother Teagarden of Broken Bow. The remains were laid to rest in the Liberty cemetery. CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our thanks to the friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us in caring for our dear husband and father, hoping it may be our privilege to do as much for them in the time of the same trouble which is sure to come to us all some time. May we all understand that God is our helper in the time of trouble is our sincere prayer.
