Henry Crist - First Man Hanged in Wayne County, Indiana

I am researching Descendants of John Crist in Indiana. His son, Alfred married Caroline Silvius, Daughter was Minnie Iris Crist...all information is appreciated!

In the process, I found this article in the Fort Wayne County Sentinel, October, 1901. So, if you are missing a Henry Crist, this may be what happened...

"FOUND MURDERER'S SKELETON

Milton, Ind., Oct. 24 (1901) --While grading for a gravel road near here yesterday, workmen ploughed up the skeleton of Henry Crist, the first man hanged in Wayne county. The skeleton, which was remarkably preserved, was placed in a box and re-buried. Crist was executed April 1, 1816, for the murder of his son-in-law*, whom he shot with a rifle in a quarrel. Crist was convicted principally on the testimony of his own son, who saw the deed committed. After the body was cut down the lad loaded the coffin on a hand sled and bore it alone at night many miles to the Crist home."

*Another reference said it was his son-in-law.

If anyone can tell me more about this family, I would love to know!
