Dear Lynda:

There was a James D. Carpenter who served in the 17th Lancers during the Crimean War with regimental number 1066. He enlisted in 1850 or 1851; he was with the riding establishment from 1 Jan to 22 Feb 1854 at Maidstone; he was at sea, at Constantinople, and at Devna in April through June 1854 respectively; he was in or at the General Hospital at Varna in August and September 1854; he died at Scutari on 6 February 1855 (apparently never making it to the Crimea, thus not getting a medal or any clasps).
