Fifteen months ago I sent emails to dozens of Craddock family researches and posted messages on all of the Craddock genealogy forums introducing genetic genealogy and appealing for participants in a Craddock family research project. I got a few email querries but no takers. The heraldic motto of the Craddock family is "Nec Temere Nec Timide," which translated into English means, "Neither Rashly Nor Timidly." Responses to this project certainly haven't been rash, but neither should they be timid. Once again, I appeal to my Craddock cousins to participate in this project. The Craddock Family Surname Project is currently underway with FamilyTreeDNA, the foremost genetic genealogy company in the world (they're the ones doing the much lauded Genographic Project for the National Geographic Society!). In order to participate, a Y-DNA test has to be taken by a male whose last name is Craddock. UK Craddocks are especially sought and all surname variants are welcomed (ie. Cradock, Cradocke, Cradoucke, Cradduck, Cradic, Cradick, Craddick, and others). But you must be male with one of these last names! The goals of the Craddock Family Surname Project include: 1) Identifying relations; 2) Validating existing research; 3) Proving or disproving theories regarding ancestors; 4) Removing genealogical brick walls that have hindered research; and 5) Determing the course for further research. I understand the trepidation some of you may feel, what with TV shows like CSI et al. There is a way to participate anonymously. I invite you to click on the following links to find out more about this company and our project: FamilyTreeDNA: http://www.familytreedna.com The Craddock Family DNA website: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/craddock The Craddock Family Surname Project: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=U15912&special=True&projecttype=S FamilyTreeDNA's frequently asked questions: http://www.familytreedna.com/faq.html "Testing my DNA?!? Are you nuts?!?!": http://www.familytreedna.com/faq_privacy.html Also, please visit the Craddock Families website at Yahoo groups. This is an excellent site maintained by Lowell Woodworth, an active Craddock family researcher: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CraddockFamilies There are several levels of Y-DNA tests to choose from (I would recommend the 37 or 67 marker test). By participating as a part of the Craddock Family Surname Project, your test is offered at a group rate (a substantial discount). Now for an extra incentive. I will pay out of my pocket the following amounts toward the first three male Craddock participants' Y-DNA tests: 1st to sign up - $75 2nd to sign up - $50 3rd to sign up - $25 Thank you for your consideration, Steven Craddock Notify Administrator about this message?
