I have tried to clean out files over the years and guess I cleaned out one too many. The info about William Belconger and the contaminated water is correct, but I cannot find exactly where I found it. It very possibly came from an AGLL film #V251-0003 -"ANCESTRY OF RUBINCAM FAMILY". The info was taken from court records The following is what was stated:
William Belconger (1500-1558) William Belconger put hemp in the water in 'le common dreyne' leading from Howeslouthe to Berth in contamination of the water there as well as endangering the Queen's liquid there. He was fined 3d and told that the penalty should be 6s 8d if he did this again.
William Belconger (1544-1601) William was not any better at keeping the waterways clean than was his father. He was fined 27 times for not cleaning watercourses. On 24 Oct 1583 he was fined for keeping animals in the field of Brooke,before the end of harvest. He never did clear the waterways. One month before his death he was cited for "allowing waste to occur in the stable parcel of his copyhold tenement, on account of the faulty roof." He was ordered to repair the roof. It appears that William did little to keep his property ion shape.
