In June of 1836, '37, or '38 (I don't have my notes in front of me), an "old-man Conger" shot and killed his overseer near Grand Gulf in Claiborne county. On top of the murder,he apparently was also guilty of bribing the jurors. He was found not guilty, was released from jail, but was knifed to death as he exited the jail. This is from information found in books in the Vicksburg library, but in neither book is "Old-man" identified. Do any of you have a clue as to who this may have been? Thanks for any input. Sara
