BelConger came about because John made bells for a living. It is a rumor that he tried to kill Oliver Cromwell. For this reason, he escaped to America on his own ship. Here in America, he changed his name to Conger to "Americanize" it. On another note, the Congers are supposedly from France. They moved to England to escape execution. The Congers were Hugeonauts and were not liked in France. Now I am only 18, but I received my information from a book named The Conger Family of America compiled by Maxine Crowell Leonard, authors edition 1972. Look into it if you are interested. It has many theories as to where John BELCONGER came from. It is 844 pages long with a record of every descendant of John until 1972.
