Wilkinsburg, was born in Lower Chanceford, York Co., Pa., in 1808, the fourth son of DAVID and DORCAS (NEEL) COLLINS, of Lancaster Co., of Scotch-Irish descent. The father was a blacksmith. His father died in York Co. age 62, and his widow in Lancaster Co. at the age of 98...DAVID came to Allegheny Co. in 1835, and ran coal to New Orleans 16 years...In 1836 he married MARY MANIFOLD, a native of Hopewell, York Co., and a daughter of HENRY and ELIZABETH (TURNER) MANIFOLD. JOSEPH, father of HENRY MANIFOLD, was a Presbyterian elder, and his wife, ELEANOR COGLE, was a Quaker preacher, who walked 40 miles to Baltimore to a yearly meeting when she was 80 years old. MR. COLLINS’ four eldest sons were in Co. A, 101st P. V., during the war, the youngest running away to join when sixteen. DAVID HENRY died of disease contracted in the service, at age 21; GEORGE WASHINGTON died in Florence prison in his 21st year. The other children are DORCAS ROSELMA (MRS. J. L. McDOWELL), ELIZABETH GRIZELLA, CASSIUS CLAY, JOSEPH, MARY EMMA, RALPH, HELEN MANIFOLD (MRS. S. M. BRINTON) and ROBERT ARTHURS. Pg. 451 MOSES COLLINS, farmer, post office Bridgeville, was born in South Fayette Twp. in 1828, a son of SAMUEL COLLINS, and grandson of DANIEL COLLINS, who came to America at an early date. DANIEL married a CRATON, and became the father of five sons and four daughters. He was a farmer, and for a number of years resided in Washington, but later moved to Allegheny Co., where he died. Of his children, SAMUEL, the second son, married, in 1821, ANN COULTER, daughter of MOSES COULTER, and they had eight children. MOSES, the subject of this sketch, was the only survivor. SAMUEL died in 1884, aged 87 years; his wife died in 1840, aged 37 years. MOSES, our subject, has always followed farming. He married in 1856 MISS MARY JORDAN, daughter of JACOB and ANN (HICKMAN) JORDAN, of this county, and five children, four living, have blessed their union: JOHN, JACOB, HOWARD and HARRY, all of whom are at home.
