SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services celebrating the life of Katie Collins Baker, 89, will be held Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 1:00 pm, at Forest Park Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Conrad Edwards of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where Mrs. Baker was a member for over fifty years.
Katie was born October 3, 1919 in Forest, MS to Joseph B. and Minnie H. Collins. She grew up in Greenwood, LA, graduated from Greenwood High School and then attended Centenary College in Shreveport. She devoted her life to her family with her children being her love and priority. Katie was also the caretaker for the extended family. She was an active volunteer to many non-profit, school and church organizations. Another true enjoyment of her life was traveling with her good friends, "Le Girls".
Katie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Lamar F. Baker, of Shreveport; her daughter, Kala Halliburton and husband, Tom, of Plano, TX; son Lamar Baker, Jr., of Shreveport; granddaughter, Erin Redding and husband, Todd and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Blake Redding of Allen, TX; grandsons, Chris Baker, M.D. and wife, Sarah, M.D., of Chicago, IL and Michael Baker of Shreveport, LA. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, wonderful friends, and caregivers.
Memorials may be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 3715 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA, 71105 or to the charity of the donor's choice. OSBORNFUNERALHOME.NET
