I come from a line of Cleggs founded by a Hiram Benjamin Clegg of Sydney, OH and Lafayette, IN. He was born Oct. 8, 1831 in Sydney and died Oct. 5, 1900 in Lafayette. Family legend has it that he was possibly orphaned. The only Clegg family that I have ever been able to find which could possibly match up is the Thomas Clegg family and descendents of Ireland and Ohio.
My line is as follows:
Hiram Benjamin Clegg m. Martha Ann Archibald
Richard Archibald Clegg m. Mary Ida Riegle
Clyde Archibald Clegg m. Lola Kathlyn Lane
William Richard Clegg m. JoAnn Dawn X
Wayne Randal Clegg (myself)
Hiram's death certificate filled out by his eldest son Sherman lists Hiram's father as Armstrong Clegg, but I am doubtful that this is correct. On the other hand, one of Hiram's daughters is reported to have said that his father's name was Benjamin. I don't know if that is correct either.
If anyone has any references to any missing children or siblings in this or any other family which might tie in my line, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
