I really don't have much to offer other than to share that I am searcing along the same lines. For the longest I thought this Frank Bowden Chilton was my ggfather as my grandfathers' name is also Frank Bowden Chilton. I finally found that my ggfather is Matthias Dayton Chilton who decided to name his son after his younger brother. From writings left by my great aunt Eloise, I show that Frank Bowden (the elder) was born Feb. 27, 1845 in Marion Alabama. I have been to his gravesite in Willis as I live not far away. I have also been to his fathers grave site in Montgomery Texas. The house where Thomas B. lived in at the time of his death in Montgomery is now a B&B. I found the elder Frank on a 1880 Census in Sealy, Austin County.
I am trying to find more information on Matthias. I know he died in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and I know where anohter brother, Lysias Brown Chilton (who is the name sake for Chilton, Texas) is buried in Marlin, but I have been unable to find Matthias anywhere but on the 1880 census as M.B. Chilton. I did not know Frank had been married 4 times, thought only twice. His grave is inside a small fence, but there are no other markers next to him. I know there is a picture of him in a book. The photo was one depicting the new confederate soldier uniform. I want to say it was in a book regarding Hood's Brigade as he was in the Ft. Bend County Texas regiment of that brigade. You might also try the "Colonial Families of the United States of America: Volume 3". If you have any info on Matthias, please let me know.
