It would appear from the facts included in your post that you are familiar with the treatment of the family in the Brackett genealogy. Since John A. Brackett named his firstborn son James Sylvester, and John’s father was James, you might assign Sylvester as the name of Eliza’s father. There were two Chase households at Grafton in the 1810 census. One is a Widow Chase, age 45 and above, whose household included one female under age ten, two females age 10-15, and one male age 16-25. The other household is a Sylvester Chase, age 16-25, with a female age 10-15 and a female age 45+. “Some of the Descendants of William Chase of Roxbury and Yarmouth, Mass,” serialized in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register ca 1932, identifies Eliza’s parents as Sylvester and Elizabeth (Eddy) Chase. [ Register 87[1933]:340. ] This source states that Sylvester was born at Swansea, Mass., 7 January 1854, lived near Albany, NY, and died about 1806. He married at Swansea 20 May 1784, Elizabeth Eddy; they had six children including Sylvester, Jr., and Eliza, who m. John A. Brackett. The Chase line is Eliza(7), Sylvester(6), Ichabod(5), Job(4), Joseph(3), William(2), William(1). If you don’t have access to the Register via a local library, visit the NEHGS website at NewEnglandancestors.org, and utilize their copy service. Notify Administrator about this message?
