Some thoughts for your consideration ... You might find this link useful: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyoswego/biographies/goodwin.html Based on the 1850 census and 1880, John W. Chase, father of Albert M., was born about 1811, and his parents were reported as born in New York in the 1880 census. Salon P. Chase was born at Cornish, NH in 1808. Philander Chase, b. 1775, has known children born between 1797 and 1824, by two wives. None born around 1811, or named John. 1840 census of Orwell, Oswego County, New York, film 326, page 243: John Chase, 2 males under 5, 1 male age 20-29; 1 male 30-39; 1 female age 20-29. 1850 census of Williamstown, Oswego County, New York film 578, page 213: John W. Chase, age 39, born in NY Emily A. Chase, 36, NY George W. Chase, 14, NY John H. Chase, 10, NY Albert M. Chase, 4, NY Mary F. Chase, 2, NY. 1860 census of Williamstown, film 838, page 232: John W. “Chass,” 45, Emily, 43 Albert M., 15 Mary F. 12 Martha S., 9 Margaret E., 6 1870 census of Williamstown, film 1074, page 676: #84 - John W. Chase, 58 Emily, 56 #85 - Albert Chase, 24 Minerve, 22 Martha, 10 months. 1880 census of Williamstown, film 915, page 302C: John W. Chase, 68, NY, both parents b. in NY; widower. There were three Chase families in Oswego County in the 1830 census with males age 15-19, and thus could be John W., b. 1811: Williamstown abuts Oneida County, and it is possible John W. belongs to a family that lived there. Daniel Chase, resident of Boylston, born between 1780 and 1790, per 1830 census. There is a family in Ancestral File [familysearch.org]for Daniel, b. 1786, married Althea Gordon, with a son, Sweetman, b. in 1811, which makes this family an unlikely candidate for parents of John W. Joshua Chase, resident of Hannibal. He was born between 1770 and 1780, based on age in 1830 census. He may be the Joshua Chase b. at Charlestown, RI, in 1778, with a son Edwin, known to be a resident of Oswego County. There is a treatment of this Chase line in NEHGS Register, 1933-1934, under Descendants of William Chase of Roxbury - it names only Edwin and George as children, without birth dates. The census records indicate there were at least four sons at home in 1830; Edwin was married and enumerated separately. Dudley L. or Dudley S. Chase, resident of Mexico. His will was proven in 1841, naming wife Susan, with son Newel to inherit after her death. The census records indicate Dudley had two sons and two daughters. Called Dudley L. in extract of will; Dudley S. in another probate extract. He was born between 1770 and 1780, per 1830 census, and may belong to the descendants of Aquila Chase. If there is a "family tradition" you are connected to the Cornish, New Hampshire Chase's, then Dudley may be your best line to follow up. Notify Administrator about this message?
